We feel your support

Bob started this blog to help keep his family and far-flung friends in the loop as he dealt with the harsh news of his cancer and with its treatment. I thought it was courageous of him to do this but it was his way. The support and caring we've received from everyone who checks the news has sustained us and we all thank you for each note, email, phone call, and visit.

Bob is comfortable and very peaceful. The truth is, however, I don't think Bob will be able to go home from the hospital. He may surprise us all and that wouldn't be the first time, but for now it looks like he is taking his final journey here at MDACC.

We know that many of you want to help. However, for now, there's nothing anyone can do as we are here with Bob 24-hours a day. If we do need help, we promise to ask.

Either the girls or I will let you know when we have more news.

My dear friend Verva,

I think I speak for all of us who love you and Bob that if we could slow this journey now by giving Bob some of our own remaining healthy months or years, we would gladly do it!

Thanks so much for this blog. It helps keep me connected with what is going on even though all I can do is send good thoughts and prayers your way. If there is anything I can do - let me know.

Dear Bob and Verva and Family,

We have been praying and continue to pray for you on your brave, magnificent and loving journey. We are comforted in the knowledge that, in Christ, we will never be permanently separated, even if we must endure this hardship, suffering and a separation for a time. You are never alone.

Verva, your comments that you indeed feel our support is reassuring. Friends of ours who are chaplains there say that the Lord is very close in times like these.

Verva,

Know that even those who have only known you and Bob for a very short time are with you on this journey. Chants are being sent to you, Bob, and your family daily.

Verva, may you know peace, comfort, and solace as you care for Bob and sit with him.

May your family know peace, comfort, and solace as they face this time of transitions with you and their father.

May Bob know peace, comfort, and solace as he lives with and through his illness.

Bob, I just learned of your battle with cancer and wanted you to know my thoughts and prayers are with you, Verva and the family. We occasionally traveled some tough roads at Exxon, but none with the many curves you are having to negotiate in your bout with cancer. I'm grateful for the good times we spent working together and for the friendship we enjoy. I'm thankful for your computer literacy that led to this blog site which allows folks like me, who have been separated from you for awhile, to express our feelings during this difficult period. May God's peace and comfort be with you and your family now and always.

Bob and Verva,

You've been an inspiration of strength and courage for us all. If this would be Bob's last journey, we wish very much that God will extend this journey to be a little bit longer so Bob can witness the birth of his first grandchild.

You are on our daily thoughts and prayers.
