I have to make a reading recommendation!
When I want an escape, I love to read Carl Hiaasen (well, and embarassingly Janet Evanovich, but she's pretty girly... maybe you would like her too... I shouldn't assume). Anyway, Carl Hiaasen is great - crazy Florida politics, environmental issues and culture with outragous characters and tons of rightous retribution.

It sounds like you are doing well and that your spirits are still up. Keep up the good work! I recently have been reading a book called "The Sparrow". (I forget the author). I definitely recommend it. It's set in the future and is kind of a sci-fi meets mission trip book about a journey to a new planet gone wrong. It's out of my normal genre, but the character development and story are entertaining and I'm really enjoying it. Happy reading!

I've been reading your blog for a while, but this is the first time I thought I would leave a comment. Since you seem to like science fiction, maybe you would like the Wizards First Rule series by Terry Goodkind. It's like Harry Potter all grown up. A person who doesn't know he's a wizard until he's an adult during a time of war. Very interesting reading and a long series of books (I think there are 11 or 12 books in total). The final book is coming out this fall. They are great books!

Keep reading the rest of the World War series ... it gets better after WW2. It's a great escape series.
He's also just issued (in paperback) #2 of his alternate WW2 history of the Japanese in the Pacific, centered on people stuck in Pearl Harbor.
